Jalapeño Won Ton Poppers

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ jalapeno peppers
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • ¼ cup half & half
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Melted butter
  • ¾ cup mozzarella cheese
  • ¾ cup Cheddar cheese
  • 2-3 green onions
  • 1 package of wonton wrappers
  • 1-2 strips bacon (optional)

Method

1. Preparing the Wonton Cups:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brush melted butter on each side of each wonton wrapper.
  3. Press the wonton wrappers into a mini muffin pan, using every other hole to allow for adequate spacing.
  4. Bake the wonton wrappers for 8-10 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

2. Making the Filling:

  1. Dice the jalapeno peppers, leaving most of the seeds for added heat, and chop the green onions.
  2. In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, half & half, diced jalapenos, and chopped green onions. Mix well using your hands.
  3. Add the mozzarella cheese, Cheddar cheese, cayenne pepper, and paprika to the bowl. Mix again with your hands until well combined.

3. Assembling and Baking:

  1. Fill each baked wonton cup with the prepared filling, distributing it evenly among the cups.
  2. Top each filled cup with a sprinkle of Cheddar cheese.
  3. Bake the filled wonton cups in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

4. Optional Bacon Topping:

  1. If desired, cook 1-2 strips of bacon until crispy, then crumble it into small pieces.
  2. After baking, sprinkle the crispy bacon on top of the cheese in each wonton cup for added flavor and texture.
