Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90/10 sirloin)
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • ⅓ green bell pepper, diced
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • Salt & pepper
  • Burger buns
  • Olive oil

Method

1. Prep the Vegetables:

  1. Dice the green pepper and onion.
  2. Mince the garlic.

2. Brown the Ground Beef:

  1. Sprinkle the ground beef with salt and pepper.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat.
  3. Once cooked, transfer the ground beef to a bowl.

3. Cook the Vegetables:

  1. In the same skillet, add a little olive oil and cook the onions and bell pepper over low heat for 15 minutes until softened.

4. Combine and Season:

  1. Add the cooked ground beef back into the skillet with the vegetables.
  2. Pour in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, red pepper flakes, chili powder, and a splash of water.
  3. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.

5. Simmer and Thicken:

  1. Cook the mixture over medium heat for about 15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  2. Assemble the Burgers:
  3. Toast the burger buns if desired.
  4. Spoon the beef mixture onto the burger buns.
