Ingredients

  • 1 sweet onion

Wet ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup mile
  • vegetable oil spray

Dry ingredients:

  • 2.5 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • 1/2 tsp Thyme
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Sauce:

  • 1.4 cup mayo
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp horse radish
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Method

  1. cut the top of the onion off about 1 quarter inch
  2. peel the onion and cut off a little bit of the bottom
  3. place the top of the onion into a big lid and using a smooth, thin knife, vertically cut the onion in half several times
  4. put the onion in a bowl of cold water, cover it, and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes
  5. mix flour, paprika, cayenne, thyme, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper in a large glass bowl
  6. put in 2 eggs, water, and milk in a different bowl and stir well with a whisk
  7. dry the onion and carefully pull the petals apart
  8. put the onion right-side up into a large bowl of dry ingredients and use a spoon or your fingers to get the flour in between all the petals
  9. flip over the onion to get rid of the excess flour, put it in the bowl of wet ingredients, then place it back in the flour and cover it again
  10. get all the excess off, then place the onion on a sheet of foil
  11. spray it with lots of vegetable oil (use a mist instead instead of direct sprays to prevent removing the spices!!)
  12. put the onion in the air fryer and cook it for 5 minutes, spray with oil, then cook for 20 more minutes, or until it’s done
  13. put mayo, sour cream, ketchup, horse radish, cayenne, pepper, paprika, and salt into a small bowl and mix
  14. serve the blooming onion on a plate with the sauce on the side and enjoy!
